New Number for Reporting Fisheries Infractions to the DEC. We often hear a lot of complaining about obviously short blackfish, bass, and fluke not being returned to the water safely but when I ask if a report was called in the reply is “what good will it do?” A heck of a lot more then ignoring the situation! Please “give a damn” and if you are sure you see fishery size and bag limit laws being broken, put it on record what you saw! To call in an infraction of NY State’s fishing regulations you will now have to call only one number: 631-444-0250, in Brookhaven. That office will then contact the field officer and dispatch him / her to the scene. It would help if you programmed that number into your cell phone so it will be available to you on the beach!
